About Fostering

The key to making a successful Military Animal Project match is the in-home training each dog receives prior to placement. As a foster guardian, you will serve an integral role in the journey of the dog through this program.
Fostering is a very rewarding experience and only a 6-8-week commitment. It’s a crucial part of getting the dog prepared for the veteran and ensuring a successful outcome. By opening your home for a 6- to 8-week period, you will provide care and support to a Military Animal Project canine in training.
The foster home works collaboratively with the trainer to follow through on training protocols and introducing the canine to daily life activities. Your Military Animal Project Trainer will provide support, mentoring, and guidance to help make the fostering experience a wonderful one for you and your foster dog.
