About Mardu Lydick

President & Founding Member

Mardu Lydick has been involved with animal rescue for over 30 years. In addition, she has fostered many dogs and cats placing them in their forever homes. Over the years, she has grown her pet family to as many as 6 rescue dogs at a time. You can’t foster all these years and not be a foster fail a couple of times!

In addition, Mardu’s family – Edens & Montanez – has had many members serve our country. Her seven Montanez uncles all served. Three in WWII and four in Korea. Her Uncle Antonio Vargas Montanez served in WWII and was killed in action at Battle of the Bulge. On the Edens side, four of her uncles served along with her Grandpa Steve Elmer Edens who served in WWI. She was brought up to respect, support our active military and veterans as well as having a strong patriotic pride for all who sacrificed for our beautiful country.

On May 1, 2014, Mardu Lydick, along with her husband Ron Lydick, launched the Ventura County, CA Chapter of Pets For Vets (PFV VCC). PFV VCC provided professionally trained companion shelter dogs for our local veterans who suffer from combat PTS, TBI, MST, Anxiety and Depression. Over the next 4 years, they successfully built a strong and experienced team of talented volunteers that included several professional dog trainers. One of the trainers, Robert Earl Horrell – a Vietnam Navy Veteran, stepped up to manage the dedicated dog training teams. Mardu, Ron & Bob became active members in the surrounding Ventura County, CA Military/Veteran Community and realized that there was a much larger need for expanded therapeutic pet support services for our veterans in need.

So, in April 2018, Mardu along with Bob Horrell and Ron Lydick, Co-Founded the non-profit Military Animal Project (MAP). Mardu is the Founder/President and runs the day to day business needs of MAP managing the dedicated Board of Directors, Leadership Team and the dedicated volunteers who ensure that the organization successfully meets their goals – #HealingVetsSavingShelterPets
